On January 30th, the RNCZ project promoted its 3rd “Listening to Industry” workshop, which took place at the facilities of CCMAR – Center of Marine Sciences, at the University of Algarve.
This initiative, organized by Fórum Oceano and CEVAL – Confederação Empresarial do Alto Minho, brought together several sector representatives to discuss solutions and challenges for the decarbonization of the naval industry.
The following entities were present: Faro Municipal Council, CCDR do Algarve, CCMAR, GAL Pesca do Sotavento do Algarve, KIPT Colab, Navproject, Pinto Basto, Sciaena, Sun Concept and Varzeamar – AlgarExperience. Thus, the event provided a privileged space for sharing ideas and initiatives with a view to reducing the environmental impact of the naval construction and maritime value chain.
The session was also attended by the companies that will develop two of the project’s studies:
- Grupo Qualiseg – State of the art of decarbonization in the shipbuilding, repair and maintenance sector
- Haedes – Strategic study of the global fleet ESG performance
The debate revealed some concerns from stakeholders, which indicated the existence of barriers in accessing public financing for projects linked to sustainability. The importance of cooperation between all agents in the value chain was also highlighted, namely through the creation of links between academia and industry.
The project will seek to work on these themes, through not only the Decarbonization Roadmap, but also training actions with companies, as well as the creation of Decarbonization Networks, which will promote cooperation between CRMN stakeholders.
