The report presents an analysis of the environmental impact of maritime transport in the EU, with data on pollution, underwater noise, impact on biodiversity and marine litter. transport have been increasing annually, corresponding to <strong><strong><strong>137.5 million tons in 2022<br><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Methane <\/strong>(CH\u2084) emissions from the sector at least <strong>doubled <\/strong>between 2018 and 2023<br><br><\/li><li>The maritime sector emits around <strong>15% of the EU&#8217;s fluorinated gases<\/strong>, with harmful impacts on the ozone layer. This can be explained by the <strong>global sulphur cap set in 2020<\/strong> and the ban on transporting HFO without reduction technologies on board<\/span><\/span><p> <\/p><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The use of batteries on ships is increasing and this trend is expected to <strong>double <\/strong>in the coming years<\/span><\/span><\/span><p> <\/p><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Onshore power connections (OPS) have been implemented by at least <strong>44 EU ports<\/strong>, and there are 352 berths with shore-to-ship power supply facilities.<strong> However, only a limited number of ships have the necessary equipment to connect to the high-voltage OPS<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><p> <\/p><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of ships using <strong>methanol, wind support and hydrogen <\/strong>is still low, but is increasing<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c704e47
